He was born to a Scotch-Irish family in the colonial Carolinas. He also served as a justice on the Tennessee Supreme Court, then purchased a plantation and became a slave owner.

He was elected as the seventh president of the United States in and remained in office until His beliefs and work founded what is now known as the Democratic party in the political system. His life, career, and presidency where very colored and often critiqued by historians and enthusiasts alike. From his ownership of slaves, to his hatred of the British, it can be tough to truly understand what was accomplished by President Jackson. His father died before he was even born, and his life just got more difficult from there. At the age of 13 he became involved with the Revolutionary War, where he served as a courier for the local militia.

Before he was president, he invaded Florida against orders. He was only instructed to capture runaway slaves but he conquered the territory and wiped out entire Seminole villages. While in Florida, he executed two British officers, which was against the orders he had been given by his own military court. He forced the Cherokees off their land even though the Supreme Court had ruled in Worcester v. Georgia that the Cherokees had the legal right to stay.
