SFFSN All-Member Meeting

If you are interested in working with the best people we know to do the most important work we know of, consider applying for a position with us. The Clinical Fellow is a one-year position designed to introduce and further develop an understanding of the effects of trauma on individuals, families, and communities. Specific goals of the counseling department are to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors: Parental Resilience and Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development. Clinical fellows will be taught and supported to use a 4 stage model of prevention and recovery: 1 client safety and stabilization, 2 strengthening skills, 3 processing and focus on change, and 4 relapse prevention. Clinical Fellows will work on a multi-disciplinary team and are responsible for doing intakes, providing therapy, conducting clinical consultations, crisis interventions, and group facilitation. Fellows receive an hourly rate as well as medical, dental, and vision benefits.

It was almost a ritual, but one that regularly disrupted the parenting class at a San Francisco-based child abuse prevention organization. Those include witnessing or being subject to physical violence in your immediate family, being emotionally or sexually abused, experiencing hunger, or lacking basic necessities like soap to clean or proper-fitting clothes, or having a parent who uses drugs, suffers mental illness, or has been incarcerated.
