In some ways Witnesses follow mainstream Christian thought. But much of their doctrine is unique among Christian faiths. Like most religions, the Witness belief system has evolved over time, shaped by developing interpretations of the Bible and by world events. Although Witnesses believe that everything in the Bible is true, they also believe it contains symbolism and that not all passages should be taken literally. Jehovah first created his son Jesus in heaven, and Jesus then helped Jehovah create the rest of the universe over a period of billions of years. Because they do not believe that Jesus is God, some theologians do not consider the Witnesses to be Christians.

Is this important? Most definitely! It is obvious that the doctrine of the resurrection of Jesus is a vital and essential element of Christianity but what of the Jehovah's Witnesses? Are they accurate in their assessment of Jesus' resurrection in denying the bodily resurrection but affirming a "spiritual" resurrection?

Millions of Christians look forward to an afterlife where they will be rewarded with a heavenly resurrection while the spirits of the wicked are punished in Hell.

Over the next few weeks, I had a wonderful opportunity to talk to these two women. However, after conversing with my guests for a few weeks about various subjects, I realized that there was a deeper issue that needed to be addressed. Instead, the principle obstacle was their underlying belief that the Watchtower organization is the only Christian church and is infallible in all it teaches. This, I think, is the problem with many of the approaches that I found online. While they did provide extremely compelling biblical evidence to support Christian beliefs, they did not directly address the underlying assumption that the Watchtower Organization is an authoritative source of doctrine.
