This summer we moved to a new homestead. It had the land, the smaller home, and a garage for storage. But it did not have a barn. If you have a homestead, you know how important it is to have a barn. So we looked through these pole barn ideas , found one that would work, and figured out how to make it cost efficient, efficient to build, and functional. I will reiterate some of these statements in step 1 because it is important to know what you want in a pole barn. This is not a small investment, and it should be something that you use regularly.

Hello Instructables! This is my entry into the Shopbot Contest. This Instructable will show you the steps to building your own shed. We decided that our shed would be for storage because we wanted to get some stuff out of the garage so we can use it as a shop. One of the challenges of building a shed in our backyard was that the ground was sloped in the area that we wanted to put it, so we had to find a way to get around that.

Costs can vary based on whether you get original construction or purchase a prefab kit and hire a pro to build it for you. Adding a shed is one way to expand a residential or commercial space. Imagine having all your garden tools easily accessible in a small metal shed near the garden, or all the bicycles that clutter up your garage tucked into a large storage shed in the yard. While many homeowners have basic carpentry skills for small DIY projects, even a basic wood shed or simple lean-to starts getting complicated. A DIY shed that leans or leaks will not make your life easier. Sheds have traditionally been used to store items such as gardening tools, lawn mowing equipment, other tools, or bikes and outdoor toys, as well as for use as auxiliary home storage space. You can also build a shed to use as a workshop or private backyard office.

It is often quite amazing just how handy a small storage shed can be. This is especially true for the homeowner who has no garage, and yet who also has a lawn that needs tending. This is because they will have equipment and supplies that need to be kept out of the weather and secure from the risk of theft or damage. The traditional size of a custom or prefabricated storage shed tends to be 10'x12' or square feet. For the purpose of this discussion we will look at the costs associated with the construction of a modest, and yet extremely durable storage shed of this size. Building a shed as described can be a DIY project, but it will require some advanced carpentry skills and even the pouring of some concrete.
