Not what my hands have done can save my guilty soul Not what my toiling flesh has borne can make my spirit whole Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God Not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load These guilty hands are raised, filthy rags are all I bring And I have come to hide beneath Your wings These holy hands are raised, washed in the fountain of Your grace And now I wear Your righteousness. Thy work alone O Christ can ease this weight of sin Thy blood alone O Lamb of God can give me peace within Thy love to me O God not mine O Lord to thee Can rid me of this dark unrest and set my spirit free These guilty hands are raised, filthy rags are all I bring And I have come to hide beneath Your wings These holy hands are raised, washed in the fountain of Your grace And now I wear Your righteousness. Thy grace a lone O God to me can pardon speak Thy power alone O Lamb of God can this sore bondage break No other work save Thine, no other blood will do No strength save that which is divine can bear me safely through These guilty hands are raised, filthy rags are all I bring And I have come to hide beneath Your wings These holy hands are raised, washed in the fountain of Your grace And now I wear Your righteousness.

And I hope that you enjoy poetry as much as I do, and believe me, I have amassed quite a collection of poems throughout the years. Many of them started out simply as poems but eventually were put to music and are now part of the timeless collection of hymns of the faith. Such is the case with this poem by Horatius Bonar. Not what my hands have done can save my guilty soul; Not what my toiling flesh has borne can make my spirit whole. Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God; Not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my pressing load. No other work but Yours, no other blood will do; No strength but that which is divine can bear me safely through.

Rediscovering Not What My Hands Have Done

Not what my hands have done Can save my guilty soul; Not what my toiling flesh has borne. Can make my spirit whole. Not what I feel or do Can give me peace with God; Not all my prayers and sighs and tears Can bear my awful load. No other work but yours, No other blood will do; No strength, but that which is divine, Can bear me safely through. For you alone are my righteousness; Only your blood can wash me clean And bring me back to God.

Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God; not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load. Thy love to me, O God, not mine, O Lord, to thee, can rid me of this dark unrest, and set my spirit free. No other work, save thine, no other blood will do; no strength, save that which is divine, can bear me safely through. This cross dispels each doubt; I bury in his tomb each thought of unbelief and fear, each ling'ring shade of gloom. His education was obtained at the High School, and the University of his native city. He was ordained to the ministry, in , and since then has been pastor at Kelso.
